Victoria to Port Angeles, USA

I made it to the harbor, but missed the ferry. Pulled into the staging area (us bikers get to ride by all the peon car people and go to the front row). And parked next to a purple bike. Registered and then went walking around in Victoria.  As usual, discovered mutant species of plants we actually pay money for in Michigan:

I went up to the hydrangea and pulled every single bloom off. In five minutes, they grew back. F-me, not fair. I then wandered down to harbor to watch concert. Fund raiser for Victoria Symphony. Gave them all my Canadian $$, It was worth it.  There was a large barge in the harbor where the bands and the symphony played. Very nice.

Finally ready to board the ferry. I see this couple who are obviously riders walking towards the queue. Of course I need to prank them. "Say, I hope you don't own that purple bike, because I knocked it over when I pulled up". After the freak out, we became buddies and swapped stories and routes, etc.

Best story: his wife's says let me tell you the story about driving across Nebraska twice in one day... Seems they stopped at a rest stop and hubby left phone on picnic table. When they got to border of next state, he discovered his mistake and they had to back track 180 miles.

I told them I could top that story. Said I left my iPad mini on plane two months ago. Bought a new one. When I wax in Rockies, it fell and screens cracked. When I got to Tofino, I walked out in the surf to scatter moms ashes. Dropped mini in the water. Picked it up and whipped it like a frisbee into ocean. Next morning, I'm sitting on my balcony drinking tea, tide is out and a couple is walking along. She picks up my iPad and starts talking to her partner. Would have given anything to hear the conversation :)
